The finished ring.

Welcome to our first remodelling story of 2017. This commission started when our customer came to Nicholas with some rings that she wasn’t wearing anymore:

The original rings.

And the brief was that she wanted a beautiful ring that would be easy to wear and that she could wear every day. So Nicholas designed a wide, two-tone gold ring using all of her stones:

Nicholas’ design.

She loved it, and Matthew started the complex commission.

Melting the gold.

Rolling the white gold for the split band.

Bending the white gold into a ring shape.

Soldering the ring closed.

Hammering the ring into a round shape.

Marking out where to cut the split in the band.

Cutting the band.

Starting to split the band.

Filing and emerying the band, ready to make the diamond settings.

Stamping the PIKE hallmark.

Soldering the central yellow gold bezel.

Checking the central bezel in the ring.

Preparing the bezel and ring for soldering.

Shaping the side bezels.

Burring out the centre of the settings, ready for the central bezel.

Shaping and filing the smaller settings.

Soldering the settings into the split ring.

Hand and machine polishing the ring after the diamonds are set, ready for rhodium plating.

Masking the yellow gold so that the rhodium plating doesn’t stick.

Here is the beautiful finished ring – our customer is thrilled. She wears it every day, and couldn’t be happier.
