Living my values

Hello everyone.

I have been sitting at my computer for about an hour writing a list of interesting things that I enjoy and have noticed a strong consistent thread in the values, ethics and skills I live by. Interestingly, I have the same philosophy that I adopted when I first became a jeweller, and it is still my formula for business and life today:

  • accepting few compromises
  • striving for excellence
  • loving the challenge
  • incorporating the personal touch
  • searching for simplicity, and
  • thinking ahead.

I have always been determined to strive for excellence, and I know that whatever creative discipline I choose, I will do it to the very best of my ability.

I draw inspiration from a diverse range of sources, and my mind never stops analysing shapes, textures and angles – and how I incorporate them into my pieces. I believe that I instinctively know what works and what doesn’t.

I have never accepted mediocrity, and I thrive on anything to do with design. With jewellery, I feel fortunate to have found my niche where things constantly evolve and every day is exciting. The joy of seeing people’s faces when they come to pick up the final work is what does it for me. That’s what makes it all worthwhile, and keeps me hungry for more.

My happiness is constantly fuelled by knowing that we create amazing pieces, and they are the best that human hands can craft. The three of us at Highgate – Matthew, Heidi and I – have an intuitive understanding of what is required, and we are a close knit team, each possessing qualities that contribute to our trusted environment.

I love working with my son Matthew who is expert at converting my drawings into reality and also with Heidi who is such a dedicated and professional ‘front of house’.

Behind the scenes, Lou takes care of our social media and at the moment is creating a new website with help from her husband Ben. Also, from the opening of our first store back in 1973, I have had Helen by my side and without her I would not be enjoying the success I still experience today.

We will be celebrating our fourth birthday at Highgate soon and we must thank you, our faithful clientele, for your support, encouragement and commissions.

Please keep enjoying our newsletters, and we’ll have more news for you in June.

Stay safe and well,

Love

Nicholas.
