Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope you had a very happy festive season and got to spend time with your loved ones doing fun things.
When starting a new year, I have always been fascinated about the origin of New Year’s Resolutions, a tradition started centuries ago that was as an attempt to make the fresh year a better one and improve life generally. Throughout years of history, resolutions were made to reaffirm previous commitments, seek forgiveness for past wrongs, support others more, pay debts and the list goes on.
Top of the list in modern day is health. Eat more healthily, lose weight, exercise more, drink less alcohol, stop smoking and quit binge habits. Better careers, education and finance are also common resolutions as well as volunteering more, being more social, and more recently spending less time on social media. I think it’s great to have these aspirations.
This year will be a year of giving back for me – I will be continuing to volunteer with Fred’s Van, and would love to mentor young jewellers or artists to make the leap into business or wherever they have been dreaming to take their craft. If you know of anyone who could help me make this happen, I would love to hear from you.
I’ll leave you with something that resonated with me from the askIDEAS website: ‘Life is too short to be anything but happy, so love deeply and forgive quickly. Take chances, never have regrets, forget the past but remember what it taught you.’
PIKE is looking forward to a fantastic 2018: we are working on a large commission due to be completed in February and I can’t wait to share it with you next month. Until then I wish you a Happy New Year and hope to see you soon!
Until next time,
Love Nicholas X
