Classic three stone ring

One of our most popular requests for design and making stories from our customers is the three stone ring: a classic favourite. While we specialise in remodelling commissions at PIKE, we also make beautiful rings using brand new stones, all of which we can supply to suit your needs. This commission story is all about our latest sapphire and diamond three stone ring, a beautiful and timeless combination. We started by ordering a range of beautiful blue sapphires, giving the customers some stones to choose from. The diamonds were then chosen to create a good balance for the sapphire. Once the stones were chosen, Matthew got started on the manufacturing process.

After melting the white gold for the stone settings and rolling it out, Matthew carefully measured, marked out and burred out the settings:

Then, it was time to carefully cut out the settings with a hand saw:

and carefully file them into beautifully precise settings:

Matthew then made claws for the sapphire and two diamonds, and soldered the claws on to the settings:

The next important part of the making process was making the underbearer (the part that sits on the finger underneath the stones):

and then Matthew soldered the underbearer to the sapphire and diamond stone settings:

Once this was done, Matthew started to focus on the shank, or the band, of the ring:

Once the band was a round shape, Matthew soldered the yellow gold together:

Once the soldering was finished, Matthew stamped the PIKE hallmark into the yellow gold band:

and then hand cut the ring to make the space for the sapphire and diamond settings:

Once the gap was there for the settings, Matthew burred out the band so that the settings could be fit in with precision:

And then it was time to hand solder the white gold settings into the yellow gold band:

Once the settings were soldered in, Matthew carefully refined all of the surfaces of the ring with emery paper (like very fine sandpaper):

and then hand and machine polished the ring, ready for setting the stones:

And then the stones were carefully set:

Once the sapphire and diamonds were securely set, Matthew gave the ring a final hand and machine polish:

masked the yellow gold with nail polish to stop the rhodium plating sticking to it:
