Pushing the boundaries

At PIKE, we are committed to designing and hand making rings that are beautiful, unique and push the boundaries of both design and manufacture, while still remaining wearable and timeless. The gents commitment ring that we are featuring this month does all of these.

This ring was designed with the complementary ladies ring (below) in mind, and also needed to stand alone as a piece of wearable art.

The brief was that it needed to be masculine, while representing the wearer of the ring – a man who thinks outside of the box, loves design and has a strong sense of who he is.

And so, the process began.

The blank white gold ring was made, and then it was time to prepare the ring and let in the contrasting rectangular pink gold sections. Matthew carefully saw-pierced out the sections

and filed the cut-outs to prepare them for the gold pieces.

He then carefully and painstakingly hand made the gold pieces to precisely fit the cut outs.

And then, time to solder them in…

Once the gold pieces were secure, the next step was for Matthew to carefully file the pink gold pieces flush with the white gold ring.

And then, time to set the diamond sections. You can only just see the gold sections in the photo below – this is why Nicholas chose a matte finish for the finished ring, to create a high contrast.

Once the diamonds were set, and the bright cuts were added to delineate the plain rectangular design panels, Matthew carefully applied a brush finish to the ring using emery paper.

Matthew decided not to rhodium plate the ring, so the finished ring highlights the beautiful natural colour of white gold.
