The Ruby Slippers
The Ruby Slippers, worn by Dorothy in the 1940 movie The Wizard of Oz. Not made with rubies of course (just beautiful red sequins), but very famous nonetheless!
Have you ever wondered what happened to the slippers? Apparently, there were between 5-10 pairs made for the movie, however only four pairs can be accounted for. One pair is kept at an American museum (read more here) while America actor Leonardo Di Caprio has helped to purchase the primary pair used for many of the close-ups for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (read more here).
Interestingly, the slippers were silver in the original novel, and the decision to make the slippers red was apparently to take advantage of the new Technicolor technology that was used to film the movie.
Definitely some of the most famous rubies around.
